SAMPLE SEARCHES

Sample "Broad Keyword" Search

To find material on a king in any of the 7 specified libraries:

The return screen will be split into 7 separate frames. Although the viewing area for each frame is limited, each library collection can be viewed by scrolling down the page frame by frame. A "keyword" search will retrieve all items that include the specified term or terms anywhere in the catalog record. That could come from the title, the author's name, the subject heading, or any description of the contents included in the catalog record. This particular search yields over 1,500 titles between the 7 libraries. This is more than most people care to sort through.

Sample "Narrower Keyword" Search

To find material on the "King of England" in any of the 7 specified libraries:

The return screen now yields fewer than 150 titles between the 7 libraries. This search has eliminated authors whose last name is "King" unless the subject of the item is "King of England", or the author is noted as being a "King of England" in the catalog record. Note that all libraries searched have biographical titles on Henry VIII.
