AUTHOR SEARCH
Search By:
Click on the circle to the left of the word "Author". A bullet will appear
in the circle when properly selected.
Search For:
Type in the author's last name, comma, first name (if known). See the sample
searches below.
Search At:
Click on the box to the left of the library or libraries you wish to search. A
check mark will appear in those boxes when properly selected. Click on the box
selected again to remove a selection.
To simultaneously search all 7 libraries listed, click on the hyperlink "Search
all seven listed libraries". A check mark will appear in all 7
boxes when properly selected. Click on this hyperlink again to remove all 7
selections.
To search the Altoona Area Public Library catalog, click on the link at the
bottom of the page.
Submit/Reset:
Click on "Submit" to begin the search.
Click on "Reset" to clear your selections. The "Search By" field will default to
"Keyword"
SAMPLE SEARCHES
Sample "Author Last Name, First Name" Search:
To find the titles written by William Shakespeare which are held in the
Martinsburg, Roaring Spring, and Williamsburg Libraries:
Select "Author" as the mode under which you will search.
Type in "Shakespeare, William" as the author for which you are searching.
Select Martinsburg Community Library.
Select Roaring Spring Community Library.
Select Williamsburg Public Library.
The return screen will
present each of the three catalogs in separate frames. The Martinsburg Community
Library has 3 Shakespeare titles in the collection. Click on the number 3 to
view the titles. The Roaring Spring Community Library has 42 Shakespeare titles.
Click on the number 42 to view the titles. The Williamsburg Public Library has
13 Shakespeare titles in the collection. Click on the number 13 to view the
titles.
Sample "Author Last Name" Search:
To find titles by Stephen King without using first name (unsure of spelling) in
the Williamsburg Public Library:
Select "Author" as the mode under which you will search.
Type in "King" as the author for which you are searching.
Select Williamsburg Public Library.
Submit.
The return screen will list authors whose last name is "King" alphabetically. Scroll down to "King, Stephen" where there are 24 titles under "King, Stephen" and another 21 titles under "King, Stephen, 1947-" Both selections are by the same person. The authors date of birth was recorded with the authors name on some entries. Since the computer does not recognize both entries as the same person, both groups must be viewed to see all titles held in the library by this author.
